Individuals who are denied Social Security disability benefits can now appeal their cases to an administrative law judge(ALJ) by requesting the use of video called the VSD(video service delivery). This allows the hearing between the applicant and judge be conducted in different offices, even across the country. Formerly, the applicant and judge had to be in the same office.
The Video hearings offer the same secure and confidential process that in-person hearings provide. The entire procedure of the case remains the same. The ALJ has the same access to the applicant’s full medical record and the procedure and development of the case is identical to in-person hearings. The judge hears and considers the same testimony.
This new way makes it much more convenient to present one’s case especially when long travel distances or physical factors are a factor. In addition, having a lawyer present familiar with disability cases is important in improving your chances of success.
